A 2026 NBER working paper found eight in ten senior executives report no measurable impact from AI on employment or productivity. DataCamp's survey of enterprise leaders found only 21% see significant ROI from AI spend, even as 82% now run AI training programs. Forbes reported this month that 66% of employees who do save time with AI hide it, staying online to avoid signaling that their workload shrank. If AI were delivering the gains companies claim in public, workers would not need to disguise them in private. For founders building in this category, the opening is not another tool that promises efficiency. It is proof. The startups that win enterprise budget in 2026 are the ones that can show a specific before and after number tied to one workflow, not a chat interface bolted onto the old process.
